Mae Bradshaw

Mrs. Mae Annetta Bradshaw of Milton, Georgia passed away Sunday December 3, 2017 at Canton Nursing Center. Mae was born in St Louis, Missouri on February 2, 1927 to the late Roger Allen and Cleo Taylor Hall. She was the first born of their four children and the only girl. Mae started her lifelong desire for learning at the age of five at the Cottage Avenue public school. She was an above average student and graduated from the eighth grade with honors. She had known from a young age that she wanted to be a teacher, and after Graduating from Sumner High School in 1944 she entered Stowe Teacher's College. Upon graduation she took her first teaching contract at Dunbar School where she taught second grade. In 1954 she married her childhood friend William Bradshaw who was then a Captain in the U.S. Army. She would later become the first African-American school librarian for the Anchorage Alaska school district. She also served on the state committee to develop curriculum for the first kindergartens in the Anchorage school district. A memorial service celebrating her life will be held Saturday December 9,2017 at 4PM at Poole Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at the funeral home following the service. In addition to her parents Mae was preceded in death by her brothers; Roger Allen Hall Jr. and George Allen Hall. Mae is survived by her daughters; Kathy Benjamin of Glen Burnie, MD and Karen Primus of Milton, GA, brother; Jack Hall and wife Anne of Phoenix, AZ, grandchildren; Kristina Russell, Kimberly Hazel, Theodore Primus and Julian Primus, great grandchildren; Percy Russell Jr., Christopher Hazel, and Dante Russell, she will be greatly missed by all.
