Michelle Owens

Michelle A. Owens of Woodstock, GA passed away Saturday, September 17, 2016 at Kennestone Hospital following a year-long battle with ovarian cancer. She was 43. Michelle was born October 4, 1972 in Utica, NY to Patricia Lee Edwards and Rodney David Owens. With her infectious smile, her sweet disposition and high spirited personality, Michelle was loved by all. Michelle worked for Body Mechanics as a Licensed Massage Therapist who handled the services for the Atlanta Falcons and the Atlanta Hawks. She also worked privately with high profile actors and musicians. She was involved in the pageantry arts since she was a 6th grader at New Hartford High School in New Hartford, NY. She was a member of the Crossmen Drum and Bugle Corps from 1990 through 1994 and went on to teach several groups including the Crossmen, The Cadets, Troopers and Magic of Orlando. She was a member/instructor with Field of View winter guard and went on to work with Salem Blue winter guard. Throughout her teaching years, Michelle worked with numerous high school guards in the NY/NJ/PA/FL/GA areas before settling at Lassiter High school in Marietta, GA where she was the color guard Director for 14 years. Michelle's brother, Bryan Owens, preceded her in death in August 2016. Michelle is survived by her husband, Jeff Sacktig, Woodstock, GA; her mother, Patricia Lee Edwards, Remsen, NY; her father and stepmother, Rod Owens (Kim), Orlando, FL; her sister, Julie Van Dyke, Orlando FL; her brother, Nick Owens, Tempe, AZ; her sisters-in-law, Jeanne Breslin, Annette Sacktig and Aileen Clougher (Mike); her brothers-in-law, Arthur Sacktig, Jimmy Sacktig (Ingrid) and John Sacktig (Kristi); her nieces, Karissa Van Dyke, Kortney Van Dyke, Coralinn Owens and Mercedes Owens; her nephews Trevor Van Dyke, Dylan Owens, Sean Breslin, Ryan Breslin, John Ralph Sacktig, Jake Sacktig, Sean Clougher and Matthew Sacktig. Visitation services will be held 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. until 5 p.m. Saturday, September 24, 2016 at Poole Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Woodstock. A service will be held during the second visitation at 4 p.m. Following the visitation Michelle's wishes were to be cremated. A Celebration of Michelle's life will continue at our dear friends Dave and Shoie McCarthy's home at 6 pm. All are welcome. The McCarthy's address is 1674 Barn Swallow Place. Marietta, GA 30062.
