Robert Duncan

December 23, 1937 — October 27, 2018

Robert Tyus Duncan, age 80, of Atlanta, passed away on October 27, 2018. He passed peacefully at Northside Cherokee Hospital surrounded by his family. Robert grew up in Carrollton, Ga. as the eldest of three sons of Senator J. Ebb Duncan and Antoinette Tyus Duncan. He graduated from Carrollton High School as President of his '55 class. He attended the University of Georgia where he was a proud member of Sigma Nu fraternity. Following college, he joined the Navy where he completed survival and escape training school (a completion he attributed to the skills he learned in his earlier Eagle Scout years) and became a Naval Intelligence Officer. During his three years of active duty, he served on the USS Hancock followed by the maiden voyage of the USS Kitty Hawk. He was stationed in London for two years where he met his beloved wife Helen Murray Duncan. After marrying in England, they resided in Atlanta where Robert was employed with Honeywell and Sperry Univac. Robert loved his family, travelling, history, the beach and the UGA Bulldogs. (He held on to life long enough for Georgia to take the 20-14 lead over Florida!). He is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Helen Murray Duncan, two daughters Tonya Duncan Imbornone (Mike) and Cindy Duncan Davis (Frank), his brother Richard A. Duncan (Bunny),two grandsons (Cole and Duncan Gandolfo) and two granddaughters (Cassidy and Quinn Davis). A Memorial Service will be held Sunday, November 18th at noon at Poole Funeral Home in Woodstock, Georgia. Family will be receiving guests from 11 a.m.-noon. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Robert can be made to the National Kidney Foundation at kidney.org.
