Dannette Marie Dunkley

October 10, 1965 — March 6, 2024

Kennesaw, Georgia

Dannette Marie Dunkley, affectionately known as « Apple », was born on October 10, 1965, to parents, Linda Wilson and Samuel Dunkley in Mount Pleasant, Portland, Jamaica.

She spent her childhood in a loving, close-knit environment with her mother, grandmother, siblings, uncles and cousins in Mount Pleasant.

She received her early education at Mount Pleasant Primary School. Later, she attended Titchfield High School in Port Antonio.

Upon her graduation from high school in 1983, Dannette relocated to Kingston and continued her studies in business and office administration. She resided with her uncle and aunt, Lascelles and Daphne Williams, who were just like her own parents.

Dannette was employed as office manager at Nakash Goshine Engineering (Ltd.) in Kingston until her migration to the United States in 1994, joining her father, Samuel, in San Francisco, California.

In 1995, she left San Francisco for Queens, New York and reunited with her cousin and dear friend, Coleen. Next, she settled in Marietta, Georgia in 1999 with her sisters, Lileith and Shawana.

An accountant by profession, Dannette graduated from Georgia State University in 2005, earning a bachelor’s degree in business administration and accounting. She pursued further studies in the field and obtained a Master of Science in Accounting at Southern Polytechnic State University in 2013.

At the time of her passing, she was employed as a senior accountant at Andritz Group.

Dannette was known for her beautiful smile. She was full of humor, enjoyed a good joke and had an infectious laugh. She maintained a characteristic cheerfulness and positive mindset in spite of the challenges presented by a serious, long-term illness.

Most of all, Dannette was known and respected for the love she had for Jehovah God. From early childhood, she showed a zeal and appreciation for His Word, and symbolized her dedication to Him by getting baptized as a teenager on August 8, 1981. She regularly shared the Bible’s message with others and enjoyed association with those whom she lovingly embraced as her brothers and sisters in the faith.

Dannette had a deep love for family and friends, and it brought her the greatest joy to spend time with them. She was kind and hospitable, and it helped that she was an excellent cook who made many tasty and delectable meals. At the same time, she enjoyed having a meal with others at her favorite restaurants. She particularly enjoyed vacationing and cruising with her sisters, Lileith and Shawana, who were also her neighbors. Like peas in a pod, they were always together, joined only by Stephen Sammy, who married Shawana in February 2020, and became their protector and repair technician.

Dannette is preceded in death by her grandmother, Laura Downer; mother, Linda Wilson; father, Samuel Dunkley; and uncles, Tercel Wilson and Herbert Wilson.

She passed away on Wednesday night, March 6, 2024, at Wellstar Kennestone Hospital with family and friends by her side.

She leaves to cherish her memory: sisters, Shawana (Stephen) Sammy, Lileith Dunkley, Nursita Johnson, Magen Dunkley, Kerrian Burton, Harriette Brown, Yvonne Dunkley, Shane Miller; brothers, Clive Russell, Lancelot Dunkley, Samuel Dunkley and Raymond Dunkley; uncle, Neville Bartley; cousin, Desrine Gibson (with whom she grew up like siblings); nieces; nephews; other relatives and numerous friends.

Dannette will be sorely missed by us all. We look forward to the soon-to-be resurrection and life forever on a brand-new earth, which our dear Dannette believed in and wholeheartedly embraced. (Isa. 25:6-8)
