Mr. Dennie Leighton Smith, Sr. a loving husband and father of 3 boys passed away at his residence in Woodstock, Georgia surrounded by his family. He was 69. A Celebration of Life Services with Full Military Honors will be held, 12:30 p.m. Monday, July 16, 2018 at Barrancas National Cemetery in Pensacola, Florida. A reception will be held from 1:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. following the ceremony at McGuire's Irish Pub in Pensacola, FL. One of Dennie's favorite places to go when visiting Pensacola, FL. Book signing and pictures will be taken there. Flowers can be sent to Barrancas National Cemetery or donations may be made to the Wounded Warriors, at www.woundedwarriorproject.org Mr. Smith was born October 1, 1948 in Gordo, Alabama to the late Ernest and Marion Spain Smith. He grew up with four sisters, Ruby, Gloria, Jamie, and Vicky with him being the only boy. They lived out in the country and picked cotton as a young boy. Dennie joined the U.S. Air Force in 1969 and proudly served his country for 33+ years. He was in Special Operations for the 9th Squadron at Duke Field, Florida. He started during the Vietnam Era and finished with Afghanistan. On December 4, 1972 he married Dianne R. Rouse. They raised three sons together: Dennie Jr. Smith, William Stephan Smith and Kevin Smith, plus all the surrogate children they raised throughout the years. Too many to list but they all know who they are. Dennie was known for his quick with and magic tricks; I.E. The Troll Man (Carleton and Christian, his nephews will never forget how Dennie's Troll Squad scared them as they were young boys.) Plus, Lisa Atwood Iverstine; The Troll is officially retired! Additionally, the Super Duper Bubble Gum Trick. Kevin Maroney his trick carried with him to Heaven. And to Kimberly Osborne Edwards, Dennie will help pull your teeth from Heaven above. You were always a twinkle in his eye from the day you were born. Dennie was a kind and compassionate spirit. He always had a smile on his lips. He loved the University of Alabama Football, and Roll Tide Roll was his #1 team all his life. Dianne had a collaborative and caring relationship during their 46 years of marriage. It was based on mutual support and a deep love for each other. Dennie believed in God our Lord and Savior and is now an Angel in Heaven. After Dennie and Dianne retired they became Full-time RV'ers for 13 years. They established a whole new family and friends who became bonded for life in the RV Community. Ken and Anita, Lea and Mark, Mark and Bea and Josh, Larry and family, and Scott and Sue. Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Ruby, brother-in-law David Carden. Dennie is survived by his wife, Dianne Smith, Woodstock, GA; three children, Dennie, Jr. Smith (Amy), Stephan (Sara), Kevin (Melissa); five grandchildren, Bailey, Pyiper, Taylor, Peyton and Jax; sisters, Gloria Carden, Jamie Corley (Mac), Vicky Gunter (Kenneth); nieces, Alisha Carden and Lynn Wills; nephews, Carleton and Christian Corley; plus, his two fur babies, Pedro and Champion.
