Dwight Chandler

July 24, 1953 — October 3, 2023

Mr. Dwight E. Chandler of Acworth, Georgia passed away Tuesday, October 3, 2023, at his residence following an extended illness.  He was 70 years old.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, October 7, 2023, at Rolling Hills Cemetery with Rev. Elizabeth Milford officiating.  Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. Friday, October 6, 2023, at Poole Funeral Home Woodstock. 

Mr. Chandler was born July 24, 1953, in Panama City, Florida to the late Jimmie and Vivian Barker Chandler.  His father was in the United States Army and was stationed in many different parts of the United States and Germany which allowed Dwight to become well versed in traveling at a young age. Dwight graduated from Walter F. George High School in Atlanta in 1970. He then earned an I.T. certificate from Atlanta Area Technological College in 1972. After working for many years in the I.T. field, Dwight graduated from Shorter University in 2000 with a bachelor’s degree in business management. Mr. Chandler was employed in the I.T. field for almost 50 years, his last job being at the General Motors I.T. innovation center in Roswell, GA. During this time, Dwight’s job allowed him to travel to many places such as multiple cities in North America and India. Dwight enjoyed playing tennis on local ALTA teams in his free time. Mr. Chandler loved working in his yard doing all types of landscaping.  Dwight attended Heritage Presbyterian Church in Acworth.

Survivors include his wife Mary Lyn Chandler, Acworth, GA; his son, Matt Chandler; stepson, Will Garmon, Temple, TX; one brother, Jeff Chandler (Allison), Cape Coral, FL; two grandchildren, Karter and Connor, North Myrtle Beach, SC; mother-in-law, Marcia Abernathy, Columbus, GA; brother-in-law, Cliff Robertson (Lynn), Columbus, GA; five cousins, three nieces and nephews; as well as precious furbabies, Gracie, Ferris, Danica, and Donnie. In Lieu of flowers please make donations to the Cobb County  Animal Services or any  animal rescue group of your choice.
