Elaine Scales

January 23, 1944 — February 27, 2019

Elaine Elizabeth Scales, 75, passed away surrounded by loved ones on February 27, 2019. She started her journey in Jacksonville, FL in 1944, where she was a beloved sister to Patricia, Shelby, Larry, Marvin, Peggy, and Cathy. After graduating high school, Elaine became a flight attendant. It was through this profession that she met her late husband, Robert Scales, whom she married shortly after and remained with for almost 39 years, until his passing. An affectionate wife, she made sure he always had cookies available to satisfy his sweet tooth. As a mother, Elaine was dedicated to her two children; Robyn and Christian. In the early 90s Elaine began working at Emory, where she remained for 20+ years. During this time period she became a grandmother and lovingly cared for her grandchildren, whom she was very proud of. An enthusiastic member of her community, Elaine spent much of her time serving those around her. A devoted foster-relief mother, poll coordinator, and member of a local book club, Elaine never met a stranger and always had the interest of others at heart. She was a prayer warrior and enjoyed participating in Bible studies at First Baptist Church Woodstock. It was here that she went on a mission's trip to Lebanon and began singing in the church choir with whom she proudly performed at Carnegie Hall. Her favorite pastimes included gardening in her yard, walking through the neighborhood with her friends, and playing Scrabble with loved ones. Elaine will be dearly missed by her family, friends, and community at large. While her physical body may be gone, her memory remains a bright light in the lives of those who were fortunate enough to have known her. Her infectious laugh and witty charm delighted those around her, and she will be remembered fondly by many. She is survived by her children, Robyn Joseph and Christian Scales, her grandchildren Peter, Stephanie, Sarah, Rachel, and Grace Joseph, her great-grandchild Aurora Joseph, her siblings Patricia and Robert Bailey, Shelby Smith, Larry Tucker, Marvin and Charlene Deen, Peggy and Joe Pinner, Cathy and Richard Wakenigg, and many other beloved family, friends and adopted grandchildren. The funeral service for Elaine will be on Saturday, March 2nd at First Baptist Church Woodstock, which is located at 11905 GA-92, Woodstock GA, 30188. The service will take place in the chapel located inside of building A at 11am, with visitation beginning at 10am. In lieu of flowers, Elaine's family asks that donations be made to WeFoster, an organization which Elaine proudly worked with and was very passionate about. Donations can be made to WeFoster at http://fbcw.org/give/. "Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her: Many women do noble things, but you surpass them all.'" - Proverbs 31:28-29
