Nils Wilder Thompson

April 23, 1961 — February 9, 2022

Mr. Nils Wilder Thompson, 60, of Woodstock passed away on Wednesday, February 9, 2022, after a brief illness. Mr. Thompson was born in Amarillo, Texas to his parents James Earl and Betty Lue Briscoe Thompson. He graduated from The Pennsylvania State University and went on to obtain a Masters in Geology at Fort Hays State University.  Nils met the love of his life Elizabeth in Buffalo, New York and they enjoyed 30 years of marriage. Survivors include his loving wife Elizabeth A. Thompson, son, Maxwell W. Thompson, adopted son Gregory R. Murphy and brother, Erik Thompson (Sue), special friends, Myles Alfonso, Robert Forrester, Adam Motes and Adria Reimer. Mr. Thompson loved sailing and was heavily involved in Scouting including adult leader positions with Troop 994 and with Sea Scout Ship 100 and Sea Scout Ship 2020.  Mr. Thompson was also an active member of several professional and industrial organizations and was serving as President of the Atlanta Geological Society.    


Services to honor the life of Mr. Nils Wilder Thompson will be Sunday, February 13, 2022, at 1:00 PM in the chapel of Poole Funeral Home. Visitation will be Saturday, February 12, 2022, from 11:00 AM until 8:00 PM and on Sunday from 10:00 AM until the service time.
