Robert Bennett Gowens Jr., a distinguished individual who touched the lives of many, passed away on March 10, 2024, in Marietta, Georgia. He was born on January 25, 1948, in Akron, Ohio, to his loving parents, Robert and Betty Gowens Sr.
Robert leaves behind a legacy that will be fondly remembered by his surviving family and friends. His beloved wife, Donna Gail Gowens, shared many cherished moments with him. Their sons, Robert Gowens III and Jeremy Gowens, meant the world to him. Robert also had a special bond with his sisters Marsha Skelton (Marty), Brenda Gowens, and brother Timothy Gowens. In addition to his immediate family, he is survived by his grandson, Matthew Gowens; one great-granddaughter, Maggie Gowens; and his loyal Labrador Retriever named "Colt."
Professionally, Robert had an illustrious career. He retired from Phoenix Management Services in Philadelphia and held prominent positions such as President of Cigarette Racing Boats in Miami, Florida, and Vice President of Evinrude Engines and Mercury Marine. His dedication to his work was admirable and left a lasting impact on those around him.
In the realm of education, Robert excelled. He graduated from Coventry High School and went on to earn a Bachelor's degree from Kent State University. His commitment to learning was commendable and set an example for others to follow.
Beyond his professional and academic achievements, Robert had a wide range of passions that brought him joy throughout his life. An avid hunter and fisherman, he embraced the great outdoors with enthusiasm. As a member of Ducks Unlimited and a lifetime member of the NRA, Robert was deeply involved in activities that resonated with his adventurous spirit. His love for history, sports, wildlife, and music enriched his life and brought him profound happiness.
As family and friends gather to honor the memory of Robert Bennett Gowens Jr., they are invited to a Visitation at Poole Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Woodstock on March 23, 2024 (1:00 PM - 3:00 PM) followed by a Memorial Service (3:00 PM - 4:00 PM). These services will provide an opportunity for all who knew him to commemorate the life of a remarkable man who will forever hold a special place in their hearts.
