Dorsey Baxter Cochran

1931 - 2021



Mr. Dorsey Baxter Cochran, age 89 of Ellijay passed away peacefully into eternal rest on Saturday, March 13, 2021 at 12:57 AM at his home. He was born on April 4, 1931 in Gordon County, GA and is the son of the late Earl Burt Cochran and Ollie Marchie Johnson Cochran. He was preceded in death by his wife Annie Ruth Wilson Cochran, his son Gregory Baxter Cochran and sister Dorothy Pauline Cochran, also brothers Donald Bell Cochran and David Earl Cochran. Dorsey was a member of Ellijay First United Methodist Church, Ellijay, GA.

During the early 1950’s Dorsey provided security for atomic weapons testing in the south pacific. After exiting the Army in 1954 he was a teacher at Fairmount High School. Later he worked in banking and then corporate credit in the carpet industry. In the late 1970’s Dorsey became director of financial services around the world for Shaw Industries. Dorsey was a wonderful father and will be truly missed by all that knew him.

He is survived by his son Ronald Earl Cochran and wife Michele, also granddaughter Brittany Paige Cochran Johnson and husband Michael, all of Ellijay; sister Delia Mae Cochran Haynes
and husband James of Ranger and brother Daniel George Cochran and his wife Karen of Dalton; and a host of nieces and nephews.

We were both sadden to hear of the passing of Dorsey Cochran.  He was a wonderful man and he will be missed by his many, many friends from Ellijay.  Our condolences to his family and dear friends.
